Lady Marian

Lady Marian

Atlanta, GA

Marian finished an engineering degree in North Carolina in 1977 and accepted a position in Atlanta. Never one to sit still, she quickly became involved in the local Scottish community and in Scottish country dancing in particular. In pursuit of this, she acquired a teaching certificate from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) in 1980 and taught classes with the Atlanta branch of the society at various levels including beginners, advanced, demonstration team and teacher candidates. During this period (1977 - 1985), Marian also found time to compete in highland dancing at southeastern Scottish games and work on a graduate degree in engineering at Georgia Tech.

Having been raised a non-practicing Unitarian, religion did not play a large roll in her childhood. Marian, thus, did not feel tied to conventional options when she began to explore her spirituality. While attending a local science fiction convention in 1985, she and a dancing friend met some folks from the Grove of the Unicorn, and shortly thereafter, began attending classes. Marian received her first degree initiation in February 1987, her second degree in June 1989 and her third in April 1995.

From 1995 to 2004, Lady Marian was assistant priestess at the Grove and helped Lady Galadriel with training classes and rituals, filling in whenever Galadriel is unavailable due to travel, lectures, or other commitments. She has a continuing interest in botany, medicinal and esoteric herbology, dance, and various forms of divination (tarot, astrology, scrying, dowsing). Her career has moved into software development and away from hardware engineering. Marian's creative outlets include writing poetry and fiction, photography and needlework.
